today’s photos are courtesy of yesterday’s session with Signal Hill. um..how do you reference people on tumblr? oh well. it was awesome to hang with tim & brian again. we tracked drums & bass for a song soon to be appearing on a 7” split. guitars will be recorded in new york next week and mixed in la before august.
let’s see if i can recall all the techy-notes:
kick-in : d112 / ssl preamp
kick-out: c38 / api 512
snr-top: 57 / api 512
snr-btm: 57 / trident s20
flr : mxl v67 / trident s20
rak : mxl v67 / trident s20
hat : octava / trident s20
oh : akg 414 c-uls / shadow hills / compex limiter
room : pearlman tm1 / a-designs pacifica 500 series / distressor
bass mic : atm25 / ssl pre/ summit dcl compressor
bass di : radial / ssl pre / summit dcl compressor
started off tracking bass & drums together. then brian got hungry just as we had started listening to sounds, so tim kept going while brian got chipotle. tim only needed 5-6 takes including warm-up takes to get ‘the one’. plenty of video was taken. tim plans to edit said video together for this tune. hopefully someone takes video of guitars being recorded. it was good that brian got hungry bc in order to get the proper bass tone he needed to turn up too loud in the room. too much bleed in the drum mics. so after he scarfed his burrito we laid down the bass. fairly roaring & growly for signal hill. go svt!
well, that’s more than i usually say about a session. if i think of anything else i’ll probably keep it to myself.
